The General Richard Montgomery Chapter is a chapter of the Alabama Society and the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution.  Membership consists of males of proven lineal descendants of Patriots of the American Revolution.

The chapter meets for lunch at the Montgomery Country Club on the third Wednesday of the months of January through May and September through November.  In May we usually have a Social and in December we have a formal evening banquet with the installation of new officers and presentation of chapter awards.

The meetings, social, and banquet are open to all SAR members, prospective members, and other invited guests.

The Chapter is named in honor of Major General Richard Montgomery, an Irish-American soldier who served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.  He was the first General Officer killed in the Revolutionary War, while leading the Canadian Expedition as they pushed on to Quebec with barely 800 strong. An assault was made on the 31st of December 1775, and almost at the first discharge of fire, General Montgomery was killed.

To accomplish the objectives of the Sons of the American Revolution, as our Past Chapter and Alabama Society President Bruce Pickette stated “…our Society is an organization with patriotic, historical, and educational objectives, including the perpetuation of the memory of the men and women who, by their sacrifices during the American Revolution, achieved the independence of the American people.  We seek not only to preserve the memory of our forebears, but to instill in all citizens an appreciation of our national heritage and a greater understanding of our national identity.”

The Chapter also maintains a Facebook page "General Richard Montgomery Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution."  Thank you for visiting our website.
